Qld: About 50,000 Brisbane homes still without power after storm

Repair crews have been working through the night in Brisbane to restore power to 50,000
homes after heavy storms.

Brisbane has experienced five severe storms in the past seven days and the Bureau of
Meteorology predicts there may be more to come in the next three or four days.

Premier PETER BEATTIE says the storm activity, which has consistently wiped out power
to Brisbane homes over the past week, is a one-in-20-year event.

Queensland power company Energex brought in an additional 57 workers from New South
Wales power companies Country Energy and Energy Australia and regional Queensland company
Ergon.

The company says many of its staff are working 18-hour shifts and it is important to
give them a break to ensure their safety.
