Fed: Labor flags LNG boost amid oil crisis

Labor has flagged liquid natural gas as one of the solutions to the oil crisis.

The party's energy spokesman, JOEL FITZGIBBON, says a Labor government would bring
more of Australia's offshore gas reserves onshore and establish an industry to transform
that gas into liquid transport fuels.

He says the HOWARD government's finally admitted that Australia faces an oil price
crisis, yet has no plan to reduce the country's growing dependency on imported oil.

Deputy Prime Minister JOHN ANDERSON has told weekend newspapers that the days of cheap
oil could be over, blaming soaring demand and Middle East tensions.

He says he hopes the higher prices will encourage further exploration and further development
and refining capacity.

Iranian Oil Company adviser Dr ALI SAMSAM BAKHTIARI has warned Australian motorists
could soon be paying up to $3 per litre for petrol.
