COREL PHOTO-PAINT 6 NOW AVAILABLE

OTTAWA, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Corel PHOTO-PAINT(TM) 6 is now available as a standalone image creation and photo-editing program, Corel Corporation (Nasdaq-NNM: COSFF) announced today. Shipping now, Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 is a 32-bit application that runs under Windows 95 and Windows NT and carries a suggested retail price of $289 US.

"The simplified user interface, new tools and masking capabilities will benefit any consumer who requires professional tools for photo-editing, bitmap creation and object manipulation."

Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 offers the same functionality as the Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 module that is part of the CorelDRAW(TM) 6 graphics suite. It features a fully customizable user interface, a Multi Document Interface (MDI) and supports unlimited file sizes, multi-tasking and task monitoring. The application includes 1,000 clipart images and symbols, 1000 photos, 100 objects, 100 fonts, 1000 bitmaps and 400 textures that tile seamlessly. Key product features include the following:

- Tools: New natural media brushes such as Pencil, Pen, Charcoal, Chalk and Crayon help create artistic effects that mirror the process of painting or drawing on textured paper. Other tools include the crop tool, texture brush tool, panning, measuring, clone and air brush tools.

- Filters: Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 includes 75 different effects filters to help users perform image correction, noise reduction and special effects. Key filters are Terrazzo, Paint Alchemy, Tone Map, Emboss, 3D stereoscopic, Canvas and Desaturate. New filters include Zig-zag, Lens Flare, Lighting Effects, Replace Color and Color Balance. The package also includes third-party plug-in support for 16 and 32-bit filters.

- Masks: The application includes enhanced masks such as paint on mask, mask mover tool, color masking and border mask. Masking capabilities include defringe, remove black matte, remove white matte, drag masks to a new channel, remove holes from mask, stroke, overlay and feather masks. Masks may also be converted into objects.

- Objects: The Object Roll-up was enhanced to control the visibility and appearance of objects. Users have the option of merging, feathering, aligning, grouping and ordering objects or converting objects to masks.

- Image Navigator: Work in zoom view and use the Image Navigator window as reference point when zooming and panning across the image.

- Command Recorder: Gives users the ability to record and edit any series of commands performed within Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6. This script may be played back using the Macro Player. For example, this utility allows users to save time by working on a low resolution image and then playing back the edits on a high resolution image.

- Color Models: HLS, YIQ, Lab, HSB, HLS, RGB, CMYK

- Color Matching Palettes: DIC, TOYO, Spectra Master, Pantone,

- Live and fully editable text

- Unlimited file size

- Frame by frame editing of AVI and FLC animation files

Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 carries a suggested retail price of $289 US. Corel PHOTO-PAINT 5+ users may upgrade to Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6 for a suggested retail price of $79 US by contacting Corel Customer Service at 1-800-772-6735 (US), 1-800-394-3729 (Canada) or through e-mail at custserv(at)corel.ca.

Users will require a minimum of a 486 (486 DX2 66 Mhz or higher recommended), 8 MB of RAM (16 MB recommended), a CD-ROM player (double- speed recommended), a Mouse or Tablet, VGA display (800 x 600 pixels, 256 colors or higher recommended) and Windows 95.
